About Us

    Most Commonly Asked Questions

Question - Do you take requests?

Answer - Of Course!  We would prefer you and your guests request music!  We only pick songs we feel "fit" your guests tastes when there are no requested songs on our list. You can also request music on our "free" on-line planning guide before the event.

Question - Do I have to sign a contract to hire GM Productions?

Answer - Yes   All customers are required to sign our contract.  This contract not only protects GM Productions, it protects you the customer as well. Gone are the days of the DJ canceling the day before your event. We WILL be there for you! Modifications to the contract are subject to approval by GM Productions. If you disagree with something on the contract or would like to add something, please contact us at 815-244-7773.

Question - If I ask you not to play a certain song(s), will you still play them?

Answer - No, If you specify a song(s) that you do not want to hear, we will NOT play it, no matter how many people ask for it!

Question - Money is tight, will you take payments?

Answer - Yes. We require 75 dollars down at the time of booking. You can pay as much or as little as you need or want anytime. All we ask is you be paid in full two weeks before your event. The 75 dollar down payment holds your date.

Question - Do you have any hidden fees?

Answer - No, unlike some DJ's we do not charge for setup or tear down, but we DO charge a flat 75 Dollar fee to cover gas if your event is 50 or more miles from Mt Carroll. Any event over 75 miles will be charged a rate of $125 an hour.

Question - Do you accept credit cards?

Answer - Yes, you can pay with a credit card online using PAYPAL.

Question - Do you charge for your on-line planning guide?

Answer - No, the planning guide is free for all of our customers. Should you decide to use our free planning guide keep in mind that if your event is only seven days away you will need to call us at 815-244-7773. You won't be able to make changes, the reason for this is we would like to talk to you about the changes to make sure everything is perfect for your event!

Question - Is it possible to meet with GM Productions before I hire you?

Answer - You bet, we prefer to meet with you. Then we can put names with faces and get to know you!

Question - How long have you been in business?

Answer - GM Productions was created in 1997.

Question - Do you have a minimum play time?

Answer - Yes, we do require a four hour minimum.

Question - What kind of media do you use for your music?

Answer - We have converted our entire CD library over to a digital format on computer hard drives. This makes finding and playing songs a snap! And it's also skip free!

Question - If I provide some music on CDs, can you play it for us?

Answer - Yes, but please notify us in advance. Sorry, no records or cassette tapes PLEASE!

Question - I would like you to play a slide show presentation that I have created.  Can you do this for us?

Answer - Yes, we can but you will need to make arrangements for a projector since we do not yet have one. Please let us know in advance. Also if you need to have a slide show presentation created we can help with that too! Call us for more information.

Question - I am planning a charity fundraiser. Would GM Productions donate time to my event?

Answer - We have a pre-set number of hours each year for charity events. Please call us at 815-244-7773 for more information.

Question - My school is having a special event, and we are in need of a DJ. Can we hire GM Productions for our event.

Answer – Due to recent events we no longer accept school event bookings. We are sorry. This only applies only to school events and does not effect our other services.

Question - Do you guys sing karaoke or dress up in costumes for special songs like the chicken dance for instance?

Answer - No, We think the singing is best left up to people who know how! And for the chicken outfit, well... let's get a clown for that!

Question - I seen a DJ at a friends reception, they were drinking all night and making a nuisance of themselves, talking over songs ect. How do I know you won't do this sort of thing?

Answer - We do not drink while on the job, or at home for that matter. We keep things very professional. The only time you will hear talking over songs is at the beginning and end, period (unless there is a safety concern such as broken glass on the dance floor). We do not try to "steal" the show! You want to hear the music, not us...right?!

Question - I would like to have my wedding and reception in the same location and need a sound system during the wedding ceremony. Is it possible to have you play traditional wedding music, before, during and after the ceremony.

Answer - Absolutely, we have done this for past customers. The wedding ceremony can even be at a different location from the reception as we can break our system in two.

Question - I don't have the first clue about how to plan a reception or even what goes on at one! Can you guys help me out?

Answer - Of course we can help. First off if you want, you can check out this page. Or just give us a call.

Question - I have seen other dj's advertise they have over 100,000 songs. How can you guys keep my guests happy with only 25,000 songs?

Answer - Most likely what you are finding are dj brokers. They advertise they are a nationwide dj company and have hundreds of thousands of songs. When in reality, they are nothing more than a middle man without any equipment or experience in the dj industry. They simply "find" a dj for you while marking up the cost of your event. GM Productions in the past has been asked by these companies to do events. We do not deal through or with these types of companies. We want to talk directly "one on one" with our end customer, you! This keeps the cost of your event lower. You know who you hire for your event is the person that will be there the night of your event! Besides who can play 100,000 songs in one night? Playing fifty songs your guests know and love is better than playing 1,000 songs they hate!

Question - If I send a request to you, how many times will you call me?

Answer – One time. If we don't receive a response within that try, we will send one email provided you left one when you sent us your request. If we still get no response, we will assume you have changed your mind and no longer need or want our service. We will not call or email you again period. If by chance you just missed the calls or were out of town, don't worry you can always send another request.

Question - I would like to see you guys play before I book your company. Where are you going to be?

Answer - We have a list of upcoming events that we are going to be at, check it out here. These are only public events, we would never invite anyone to a private event like your reception!

Question - Is GM Productions a full time DJ service or just a weekend part time company?

Answer - We are a part time DJ company. Our demographic area does not support a full service. Although this isn't all bad. Part time DJ's have more income to put back into their companies in the form of equipment and music. We can keep your costs lower as well because this isn't a main source of income for us. Will we be able to take care of the needs of your event? Absolutely! We take a personal one on one approach with each and every customer.
